The technology industry continues to create opportunities for people who can build, maintain, and deploy digital products. Yet for many aspiring developers, getting started can be difficult—especially without a technical background or a clear learning path.
To address this gap, FonX Lab is introducing the Zero-to-Beginner Software Engineer Program, a structured six-month hybrid training program designed to take beginners from the fundamentals of computing and programming to building practical software projects.
The program is built around a simple philosophy:
Learn. Build. Grow.
Rather than focusing only on theory, trainees will learn concepts, practice them through exercises, build projects, solve problems, and gradually develop the skills required to work in a professional software development environment.
Who Is the Program For?
The program is designed primarily for students, beginners, and aspiring software developers who want to build a strong foundation in software engineering.
You do not need prior professional programming experience to begin.
Whether someone is completely new to programming or has experimented with coding but lacks a structured foundation, the program provides a guided pathway through the essential concepts and tools used in modern web and software development.
What Will You Learn?
The six-month pathway covers the major stages of becoming a practical software developer.
1. Programming Fundamentals
The journey begins with the fundamentals.
Trainees learn how software works, how to think computationally, how to break problems into smaller components, and how to write and understand programs.
Topics include programming concepts, variables, data types, conditions, loops, functions, problem-solving, debugging, and basic software development practices.
2. Web Development Fundamentals
Once the programming foundation is established, trainees move into web development.
They learn how websites and web applications are structured using:
- HTML
- CSS
- JavaScript
- Web semantics
- Responsive web development
- Browser fundamentals
- Modern development workflows
The goal is not simply to create webpages, but to understand how the different technologies work together to create usable web experiences.
3. Modern Frontend Engineering
The program then introduces modern frontend development, including React and component-based application development.
Trainees learn how to structure frontend applications, manage application state, interact with APIs, and build interfaces that communicate with backend services.
4. Backend Development & Databases
Software applications need more than an interface.
Trainees are introduced to backend development using technologies such as Node.js and Express, learning how servers work, how APIs are designed, and how applications communicate with databases.
Database technologies covered include PostgreSQL and MongoDB, giving trainees experience with both relational and document-oriented data storage.
5. Full-Stack Development & Deployment
The next stage brings everything together.
Trainees work on full-stack applications that combine frontend interfaces, backend services, APIs, and databases.
They are also introduced to the infrastructure required to take applications from development environments to deployment, including:
- Git and GitHub
- Linux fundamentals
- Docker
- Deployment workflows
- Cloud infrastructure concepts
- CI/CD fundamentals
This helps trainees understand not only how to build software, but also what happens after the code is written.
6. Professional Preparation & Final Project
The final stage focuses on applying everything learned.
Trainees work on a substantial project while receiving mentorship, feedback, and code reviews. They also develop professional skills around collaboration, documentation, technical communication, problem-solving, and presenting their work.
The objective is to help trainees build evidence of their capabilities through practical projects and a development portfolio.
More Than Just Coding
Software engineering is not simply about learning programming languages.
A good developer needs to understand how to investigate problems, read documentation, work with other developers, use version control, debug applications, communicate technical ideas, and continuously learn.
For this reason, the FonX Lab program places emphasis on problem-solving, practical application, development workflows, project work, and professional development alongside technical instruction.
A Structured Six-Month Pathway
The program is planned as a six-month, 24-week learning pathway delivered through a hybrid model, combining in-person and online learning.
Trainees are expected to commit approximately five days per week and eight hours per day throughout the training period.
However, the six-month structure should not be interpreted as a rigid deadline for mastering every topic.
Every trainee learns differently. Progress depends on factors such as learning pace, consistency, commitment, ability to solve problems, and demonstrated understanding.
The curriculum therefore provides a planned sequence rather than fixed monthly competency deadlines. FonX Lab can revisit concepts, provide additional exercises, adjust the pace, or extend particular learning areas when necessary.
Learning Through Building
One of the central principles of the program is practical application.
Instead of learning concepts in isolation, trainees will progressively apply what they learn to exercises and projects.
This approach allows them to experience the development process—from understanding a problem and designing a solution to writing code, debugging, using version control, connecting systems, and eventually deploying an application.
By the end of the pathway, the goal is for trainees to have more than theoretical knowledge: they should have practical experience they can demonstrate.
Who Can This Lead To?
Depending on their demonstrated skills and final evaluation, participants may be prepared to pursue entry-level opportunities such as:
- Junior Software Developer
- Frontend Developer
- Backend Developer
- Full-Stack Developer
- Web Developer
- Software Engineering Intern
The program does not promise a particular job outcome. Instead, it provides the technical foundation, practical experience, mentorship, and professional preparation needed to begin pursuing opportunities in software development.
Program Investment
The total program fee is:
450,000 FCFA
Payment is structured into:
75,000 FCFA × 6 months
The monthly payment arrangement is administrative and does not determine a trainee’s technical progression. Progression through the curriculum is based on learning pace, understanding, practical performance, and demonstrated competencies.
Start Your Software Engineering Journey
You don’t have to start with years of programming experience.
You need a willingness to learn, the commitment to practice, and the discipline to keep solving problems when the code doesn’t work the first time.
The FonX Lab Zero-to-Beginner Software Engineer Program provides a structured environment to start that journey and progressively develop the skills needed to build real software.
